Planting windows and manual dates

The calendar can calculate a window from recorded crop data, while a saved plan lets you choose dates that suit the work you intend to do. Keep those two roles clear: the source-based range explains the reference, and a manual date records your decision.

Read the result before editing

Check the crop and action on the task. A sowing range and a transplant range can both belong to one crop without referring to the same event. Read the date label, source note, and any condition that still needs checking outside the calculator.

A single-day result is not necessarily more certain than a range. It may simply come from a source rule with one offset or from a date you selected. The label should tell you which kind of result you are looking at.

Choose a manual date

Open the task’s edit controls, enter the full date you want to use, and add a note when the reason will matter later. Keep the manual indicator visible after saving. If you are changing a window to a selected day, check that the new representation expresses what you intend.

  1. Confirm the crop and action.
  2. Enter the new date or supported date range.
  3. Review linked tasks and any source conditions.
  4. Save the edit and check its manual status.

Review linked tasks

For an indoor-start and transplant pair, inspect both dates. The nursery interval is measured between them. A broad calendar envelope does not mean all possible endpoint combinations preserve that interval.

For a succession batch, decide whether you are editing one batch or rebuilding the sequence. An individual change can break the regular spacing between batches intentionally. Keep the change visible rather than presenting the edited list as an unchanged repeat pattern.

Change a frost date without losing an edit

When you update a frost input, review the tasks calculated from that anchor. Manually edited tasks remain a separate choice. Do not treat a preview of new calculated dates as permission to discard them.

Keep the manual date if it still reflects your decision. Reset it to the calculated value only when you explicitly want the source-based schedule again. If the plan has many edits, download JSON or duplicate the plan before changing its main assumptions.

Handle a missing or unsupported action

No numeric window means there is not enough reviewed timing information for that calculation. A source that does not recommend an action is a different state. Neither should produce a guessed date simply because you clicked an update button.

You can record your own supported decision as a manual task when the plan allows it, but the note should make its origin clear. After finishing a revision, save and refresh the PDF, CSV, or calendar copy you use; previously downloaded files do not follow later edits.
