Choose a leaf-harvest stand
The selected grower guide gives four to eight inches between plants and eighteen inches between rows. The editable example selects the wider plant distance. These are final plant distances, not the initial seeds-per-inch sowing rate.
Keep picking access in the layout
Choose row orientation and margins so leaves can be harvested without stepping into the stand. The points show plant centers; they do not draw the mature canopy or account for containers placed along the bed edge.
Record a different growing system
A large individual plant, a pot arrangement or a microgreen tray should not silently inherit this field-row default. Enter a supported custom layout, label its purpose and retain it with the exported plan.
Growing system
Leaf harvest in rows
The selected system is field-grown leaf basil in rows, not microgreens or a mature container specimen.
Source range: 4–8 in between plants; 18–18 in between rows.
This example selects distances within the cited range. Change them for a reviewed variety or method and retain the override in your plan.
Questions growers ask
Does the compact field spacing apply to a basil pot?
Not automatically. A container, cultivar and intended mature size can require a different arrangement. This preset is specifically a row-grown leaf crop.
Sources and conditions
These sources describe particular climates and growing methods. Use the conditions alongside the numbers.
Field-grown basil for leaf harvest; final plant spacing and row spacing, not a dense microgreen stand.
General nursery and setting-out reference, using a user-supplied spring frost-free date. Nursery duration is measured before setting out.
Basil seed or transplants after frost; the guide also describes harvest and flowering.
