Warm-season crops

Cucumber planting calendar and growing plan

Choose direct sowing or a short nursery start, then keep the layout consistent with that method. This record uses a single-plant row system for spacing.

This date narrows indoor sowing for transplantable crops. It does not change the source reference for outdoor conditions.

Sowing windows combine possible transplant dates. Choose a paired transplant date to narrow the nursery window. Wait for suitable soil and local conditions.

Direct sowing and transplanting are alternative ways to start a crop. Keep the tasks that match your method.

Sources and conditions

Use a short nursery period and preserve roots when moving plants.

  • These are reviewed planning references. Check the variety, local soil and weather before acting; a frost date is not a forecast.
  • Harden off young plants and avoid disturbing their roots when moving them outside.

The chart’s setting-out range follows the spring frost-free date.

Zero days denotes the last-frost boundary, not a claim that sowing is limited to that day. Warm-soil conditions must also be met.

  • These are reviewed planning references. Check the variety, local soil and weather before acting; a frost date is not a forecast.
  • Wait until after last frost and until soil is at least 70°F at one inch deep.

A planning reference, not a weather forecast.

Two establishment methods

The direct-sowing boundary follows last frost and soil warmth. The separate nursery option counts back from a transplant date. Selecting one method avoids counting both as separate crop batches.

A row is not a hill

The spacing example represents individual transplants. The source also describes groups of seeds in hills, but those clusters are not modeled as one plant at each dot. Use a different custom layout if growing in hills.

Plan replacement sowings

The succession chart offers a repeat interval and an autumn boundary. Use those as a starting point for replacing tired plants, while checking space released by earlier crops and the remaining local season.

Questions growers ask

Can I plant before the reference boundary under a cover?

Covered early planting is a different system. This preset follows the standard outdoor method; save a reviewed custom date and its assumptions when using protection.
