Use the detailed row guidance
The selected Utah section gives two to three inches between retained plants and twelve to eighteen inches between rows. The example chooses three inches within rows and twelve inches between rows. These values describe roots after thinning.
Separate bed access from crop rows
The row spacing is a growing-system value, not necessarily a comfortable walking path. Place paths outside the planted bed area or reduce its usable width before generating the layout. Choose a row direction that allows thinning without stepping on the crop.
Carry the final count into seed quantity
The point count is the target stand. Enter your own germination and establishment assumptions for the seed estimate. The layout does not turn slow or uneven emergence into a reason to count each seed as a successful root.
Growing system
Final thinned stand
Final spacing applies after thinning. The seed count needed to establish that stand is a separate calculation.
Source range: 2–3 in between plants; 12–18 in between rows.
This example selects distances within the cited range. Change them for a reviewed variety or method and retain the override in your plan.
Questions growers ask
Does this spacing tell me how thickly to sow?
It specifies the final retained stand. Initial sowing and thinning depend on the seed, method and establishment assumptions you choose.
Sources and conditions
These sources describe particular climates and growing methods. Use the conditions alongside the numbers.
General intervals under standard growing practices. Crop purpose and protected-cover exceptions matter; these are not harvest guarantees.
